The sink you are using is a curving section of pipe. The main purpose of this pipe is not to just trap undesirable hair and grease beneath the kitchen sink. Although it is often used to do so, the curve allows a volume of water to accumulate and create a barrier to ensure that sewer gas isn't permitted to flow freely into your home and smudge the sink. It can also block undesirable substances from entering your pipes.
It's a good idea to keep in mind that if all of your sinks are operating at a slow rate, we don't think that a blocked drain trap is the cause. It could be a problem with the primary sewer lines. Call us to determine the cause.
If you're experiencing a slow-running or clogged sink that is only in one area in your home, among the most important things you should look at is the drain trap. So, let's get started!
Take everything out underneath the sink to provide the user with a clear work space. You'll need a bucket to put under the drain trap that is shaped like an elbow that you're about to release. After you have put on the appropriate clothing and are ready for dirty water, look around and determine which position you feel most comfortable in. This will allow you to remove the slip joint nuts, either by hand or using a plier or wrench.
If you've been able to open the trap for the sink, we hope that you have discovered the clog. Make sure you empty it all into the bucket. While you've got it open, use the bottle brush to remove any other debris you locate access to.
If you haven't found the clog, then it means you're likely to have to take a snake to this drainage. Our preferred method? Call us for an appointment. We love unclogging drains!
