How to Fix a Smelly Dishwasher
How to Fix a Smelly Dishwasher
In the ideal world, the kitchen of your home is always filled with delicious aromas, like freshly-baked cookies, or your mother's favorite dish of spaghetti sauce. However, when you live in the actual world, smells of foulness can engulf your kitchen and make cooking an unpleasant experience.
If you notice a bad smell emanating from your dishwasher, the following steps could address the issue.
- Clean the filter. In time, the filter of your dishwasher may become coated with food particles and other gunk. This is the primary reason that dishwashers start to smell unpleasant. Check the user's guide to learn how to get rid of the filter from your model. After that, wash the area around the filter with hot soapy water.
- Clean the gasket and walls. Use a rag with soap to wash the inside surfaces of the dishwasher, as well as the gasket made of rubber which closes off the door. Remove any food particles or mold you see.
- Internal parts scrub. Take the racks out and give the interior components a thorough scrub. This is the case for slide arms, spray arms, and dish and utensil racks.
- Run a cycle. Add one cup of vinegar distilled in the bowl and put it on top of the dishwasher. Then, run the full cycle without any other things inside the dishwasher. This will help to disinfect the inside. Once that's finished, take it out from the dish and then add a tiny quantity of baking soda in the lower part of the dishwasher beneath the arms that spray. Then, run another cycle that is the shortest on your machine to give it an additional cleaning as well as to eliminate that vinegar smell.
Stopping your dishwasher from becoming smelly
To stop the smells from returning, keep an eye on food waste that doesn't go to the drain after every cycle.
Don't put dirty dishes in the dishwasher for long enough. This can lead to bad odors and the growth of bacteria. Instead, you can use the rinse-and-hold cycle to ensure that the dishwasher is clean between wash cycles.
If you've tried all of these suggestions and are still experiencing issues in your dishwasher, you should call the experts.
